世界経済フォーラムは、世界のGDPの半分以上に相当する44兆ドルは、自然とそれがもたらすサービスに依存していると推定しており、自然はまさに「経済活動の基盤」といえます。

 

2022年12月に生物多様性条約締約国会議（COP15）において採択された「昆明・モントリオール生物多様性枠組」では、「生物多様性の損失を止め反転させるための緊急の行動をとる」という「2030年ミッション」が示され、その実現に向け緊急に各国政府が取るべき行動（ターゲット）の一つとして、企業・金融機関による生物多様性に関するリスク、依存、インパクトのモニタリング・評価・開示を奨励するための措置を講じることが定められました。

 

TNFD（自然関連財務情報開示タスクフォース）は、情報開示を通じ資金の流れをネイチャーポジティブ経済の実現に資するものに変えることを目的として、情報開示フレームワークの開発を進めており、今年9月には最終開示提言（v1.0）を公表する予定です。このほか、ISSBにおいても、生物多様性等に関する財務報告基準を検討する動きがあります。

 

こうした世界的潮流を踏まえ、トップランナーの企業・金融機関においては、すでに自然資本や生物多様性に関する取り組みが開始、推進されています。

 

本セミナーでは、「TNFD最終開示提言公表やその他の動向を踏まえ金融機関はどのような対応を行うべきか？」「金融機関が自然関連財務情報開示を行う際のポイントは何か？」「自然関連財務情報開示に関する現業企業のトップランナーからどのような教訓を得られるか？」「どのようなツールや支援策の活用が考えられるか？」といった点に焦点を当て、議論を行います。

How can Financial Institutions contribute to Realizing a Nature Positive Economy? – Implementation of TNFD’s Final Set of Disclosure Recommendations (v1.0)

※This event is held as a official side event for PRI in Person 2023

 

The World Economic Forum estimates that 44 trillion dollars of economic value generation – over half the world’s total GDP – depend on nature and the services it provides. Nature is truly “the foundation of economic activities”.

 

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) was adopted during the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in December 2022. The mission of the Framework for the period up to 2030 (2030 Mission) is “to take urgent action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss to put nature on a path to recovery 　for the benefit of people and planet”. One of the 2030 Targets to achieve the 2030 Mission is to take measures to encourage and enable business, and in particular to ensure that large and transnational companies and financial institutions regularly monitor, assess, and transparently disclose their risks, dependencies and impacts on biodiversity.

 

TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures) will publish its final set of disclosure recommendations (v1.0) in September, with the ultimate aim of supporting a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes. Furthermore, ISSB announces plans to advance work on natural ecosystems.

 

In the context of this global trend, the front-runner companies and financial institutions already started working on projects related to biodiversity and/or natural capital.

 

This session will discuss “What actions are required for financial institutions to take under the momentum to address the loss of biodiversity and natural capital?”, ”How should financial institutions disclose their nature-related financial information in accordance with the TNFD recommendations?”, “What are the lessons we learn from the front-runner companies for nature-related financial disclosures?”, and “What tools can financial institutions use to take actions to tackle the nature and biodiversity issue?”.
